Swimming Australia, September 25, 2015:
Australia’s 2015 successes in the pool have continued tonight with Queensland trio Cate Campbell, Emily Seebohm and Daniel Smith all scoring wins on the opening night of the World Cup event in Hong Kong.

Campbell clocked 24.69 to turn the tables on world champion sister Bronte (24.84) with Denmark’s Jeanette Ottesen (25.05) third in the 50m freestyle with another Australian Holly Barratt fifth (25.76).

Australia’s backstroke depth continued to shine through with dual individual world champion Seebohm winning the women’s 50m backstroke in 27.90 from WA’s World University Games winner Barratt (28.22) in another backstroking quinella.

Seebohm was later second to the Hungarian “Iron lady” Katinka Hosszu in the 200 metres backstroke with Olympic champion Missy Franklin (2:11.23) third and Australians, Olympic finalist Belinda Hocking (2:13.25) 4th and Hayley Abood (2:16.85) 6th

Miami’s Smith continued his emergence with a confidence boosting win in the 400m freestyle after his 200m freestyle win in the Paris World Cup

After finishing third in the 100m freestyle in 49.82 earlier in the program he scored an all-the-way win in the 400m freestyle final in 3:52.68 (55.64 and 1:54.93) from David Brandl (AUT) 3:53.07 and Masato Sakai (JPN) 3:53.15.

The Australians have wasted no time getting back into the swing of some early season competition, taking advantage of a World Cup series now swum over long course.

Most swimmers have only been back in training for two weeks and it was only three weeks ago that Seebohm and Bronte Campbell stood together in Brisbane as joint winners of the 2015 Australian Swimmer of the Year.

-       Kenneth To (49.52) finished second in the 100m freestyle before he was second (24.30) and Te Haumi Maxwell (24.33) third in the 50m butterfly.
