Dolphins splash out in Sperry: Official footwear brand of the Australian Swim Team
Swimming Australia, September 29, 2015: Swimming Australia is excited to announce Sperry as the official leisure footwear partner of the Australian Dolphins Swim Team.
Sperry is famous for creating the world’s first boat shoe in 1935 and now some 80 years on offers a full collection of shoes inspired by a life on and around water.
The new partnership comes after the Dolphins’ successful Fina World Championship campaign in Kazan where the team won seven gold, three silver and seven bronze medals – its biggest medal haul in eight years.
Members of the 2015 Dolphins’ team including Grant Hackett, Madeline Groves and triple medallist Madison Wilson, recently joined Swimming Australia President John Bertrand, RCG Brands Executive Director Ted Baldock and Sperry Brand Manager Richard Blanch to announce the partnership.
Swimming Australia General Manager of Sponsorship and Business Development, Miles Rose said he was thrilled with the three-year deal.
“We’re delighted to have Sperry join the Swimming Australia family. Sperry originated from helping sailors in the 1930s and are known for their innovation and good taste,” Rose said.
“Sperry has a significant presence in the USA and together we’re working in partnership to build the brand in Australia.
“They will be a great fit for our Australian Dolphins Swim team who are striving to be the best in the world, and for our swimming fans across the country.”
With a wide range of shoes available and as a brand synonymous with water sports, Sperry will join the Dolphins’ on their journey for the next three years.
RCG Brands Executive Director Ted Baldock said: “We see huge potential in the Australian market for Sperry and this partnership is our first step in a bold strategy to become involved with iconic Australian sports. And in our eyes there is nothing more iconic in Australia than the swim team.
“We are extremely excited about this partnership, especially with so much to look forward to after such great success at the World Championships and with the Rio Olympics and Paralympics just around the corner in 2016”.
Sperry will have a presence at the 2016 Hancock Prospecting Australian Championships and will be promoted across Swimming Australia’s online and social channels.
The Championships, from April 7-14 at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, will double as the Olympic Trials for Rio and will be televised live and exclusive on the Seven Network.
