Swimming Australia, August 28, 2016: Emerging Australian freestyler Jack Cartwright will return home from the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Maui with a “heavy medal” collection after a dominant performance over the past four days at the Kihei Aquatic Centre.

The boy from Gladstone, who is now firmly entrenched in Brisbane’s St Peters Western super squad, won a rare treble, taking home gold in the individual 50, 100 and 200 metres freestyle events.

Cartwright added the final piece of his freestyle medal collection when he stormed home to win the 50m freestyle earlier today in 22.28.

Earlier in the meet Cartwright won the 100m freestyle gold in 49.14 after setting a new Junior Pan Pac record of 48.91 in the heats.

That came after Cartwright (1:47.68) and team mate Louis Townsend (1:47.73) staged one of the duels of the meet to clock outstanding times to take out the gold and silver in the 200m freestyle final.

The Australian boys both went under the old Junior Pan Pac record  mark of 1:48.29 set by US Olympic gold medallist Townley Haas in 2014.

Haas won gold at the Rio Olympics in the USA's 4x200m freestyle relay alongside Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Conor Dwyer and was fifth in the individual 200m freestyle final.

He also added a fourth gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay; silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay and bronze in the 4x100m medley relay for a total of four gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

Cartwright, who has emerged from Dean Boxall’s youth group, was the outstanding individual in Glenn Beringen’s exciting Youth Team  youth team that won a total of six gold, six silver and 11 bronze medals.

Other standouts were backstroke golden girls Minna Atherton (100m backstroke) and 14-year-old Kaylee McKeown (200m backstroke) who also notched individual wins.

In other events today: Matthew Wilson won silver in the 200m breaststroke in 2:11.33; Jacob Vincent bronze in the 800m freestyle in 8:01.82; while the girls won bronze in the 4x100m medley relay.
