Russian, Evgeny Korotyshkin set a new global mark in the 100m butterfly on the final day of competition, clocking 48.99 to erase Ian Crocker's previous mark (49.07) which had stood for five years and set in March 2004.

George Du Rand (RSA) established his first ever world mark in the 200m backstroke - 1:47.08 - 0.76 secs faster than the time established by Markus Rogan (AUT) in April 2008 (1:47.84), at the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Manchester.

In the women's events Jessica Hardy (USA) continues to make up for lost time, improving her own WR in the 50m breaststroke, clocking in 29.36 to improve her own world record set in the first leg of the series, in Durban, where she clocked 29.45.

Australia's Marieke Guehrer and Evelyn Verraszto (HUN) had started the world record ball rolling on day one after improving the global marks in the women's 50m backstroke and 200m individual medley, respectively.

Guehrer - overall winner of the series in 2008 - finished in 26.17, bettering the mark (26.23) set by Sanja Jovanovic (CRO) in December 2008.

As for the Hungarian revelation, she clocked 2:06.01, faster than the previous record (2:06.13) achieved by Olympic and world champion Kirsty Coventry (ZIM) in April 2008.

There were also eight new World Cup records set in Moscow.

US pair Peter Marshall and Jessica Hardy lead the overall ranking of the competition, with respectively 47 and 85 points.
