HARDY AND ALSHAMMAR LOCKED IN $US100,000 PRIZE BATTLE

fina logo 1.jpgNovember 13: The USA's Jessica Hardy and Swedish veteran Therese Alshammar are locked in a neck-and-neck battle for the $US100,000 overall women's prizemoney after the first three meets at this year's FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup.

Hardy holds a two point lead, 125 to 123 over last year's runner-up Alshammar with China's Jing Zhao, who established three world records in Stockholm (SWE), this week, third on 76 points.

Hardy (50m breaststroke), Alshammar (50m butterfly) and Zhao (the 50m backstroke twice and the 100m individual medley), were among seven swimmers who broke nine world records in Stockholm.

But it was Alshammar's time which earned her top billing in front of her home crowd with 1114 points on the FINA pointscore to keep her well and truly in the money race.

Men's overall leader Peter Marshall, who set a new world mark in the 50m backstroke, sits on top of the men's chase with 80 points from South African pair, last year's winner Cameron van der Burgh (66 pts) and Roland Schoeman (61 pts).

Leading into the fourth leg of the series, in Berlin (GER) this weekend, there have been 18 WR and 31 World Cup records established in the series.

NEXT MEET: November 14-15 in Berlin (GER) followed by the final meet on November 21-22 in Singapore (SIN).
