VAN DER BURGH AND HARDY SCOOP FINA/ARENA WORLD CUP POOL

fina logo 1.jpgNovember 23: Cameron van der Burgh (RSA) and Jessica Hardy (USA) have been crowned the overall winners of the 2009 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup after the final meet in Singapore - taking home $US100,000 each.

The defending champion van der Burgh collected 163 points while Hardy finished the five-meet series with a total of 210 points.

Throughout this year's World Cup, Burgh established two World Records and Hardy improved the global breaststroke marks on four occasions.

Roland Schoeman (RSA) on 131 points and Peter Marshall (USA, 126) and Therese Alshammar (SWE, 200) and Hinkelien Schreuder (NED, 84) received US$ 50,000 and US$ 30,000  respectively for second and third in both men's and women's divisions.

In Singapore it was Marshall who set a new world record in the men's 50m backstroke (22.61),  Alshammar in the women's 50m butterfly (24.38) and Kathryn Meaklim (RSA) in the women's 400m individual medley (4:22.88), taking the overall world record total to 37.
