Gorman, the 2009 world champion over 5km, and Aurelie Muller (FRA) were both disqualified as four swimmers battled to the finish line in a flurry of arms and legs.

But the Championships Jury of Appeal considered the correspondence received from the Australian team relating to Gorman's situation.

They confirmed that an open water swimmer can only be disqualified by a Referee and the Jury of Appeal has decided to reinstate Gorman as winner of the bronze medal of the Women's 10km race.

The Jury confirmed the decision of the Referee to suspend the French swimmer Muller.

Consequently, the ranking of the 10km race-Women will now be as follows:

1 Martina Grimaldi (ITA) 2:05:45.2
2 Giorgia Consiglio (ITA) 2:05:57.4
3 Melissa Gorman (AUS) 2:05:57.9
4 Yanqiao Fang (CHN) 2:05:59.1
5 Angela Maurer (GER) 2:05:59.2
