RESCUE 2012, Adelaide, November 12, 2012: Champion Gold Coast clubs Northcliffe and Kurrawa and Sydney Northern Beaches kings Manly will share the “best of both worlds” as they mount their challenges for international supremacy at this week’s Rescue 2012 World Life Saving Inter-Club Championships in Adelaide.

Northcliffe will be led by Australian captain Shannon Eckstein who remained unbeaten in the National Teams Challenge – winning the Oceanman, Single Ski, Board and Surf race – as he attempts to emulate Trevor Hendy and win a fourth world Ironman title.

But he will be joined by two members of the victorious World Championship winning New Zealand Black Fins, captain Andrew McMillan and vice-captain Kevin Morrison who will link up with the all-star Northcliffe team with Kurrawa boosted by the boyfriend-girl friend beach flags combination of Melissa Howard (Australian team) and her Kiwi partner Paul Cracroft-Wilson (New Zealand team) as well as the Black Fins National Teams flags champion Chanel Hickman.

The sky-blue caps of Manly will have Olympic duo, K4 gold medallist Murray Stewart and his London 2012 team mate Naomi Flood and Ironwoman Candice Falzon will be joined by New Zealand’s rising star, International single ski and board rescue winner, Australian  Under 19 Ironwoman champion Devon Halligan.

Northcliffe’s all-stars also includes Stewart’s Olympic gold medal-winning team mate, 19-time Australian champion Tate Smith; world record holding English Channel swimmer Trent Grimsey, Australian captain Kristyl Smith and the champion Ironwomen sisters Courtney and Bonnie Hancock.

Eckstein and McMillan joined Australian team members, International surf race winner Miranda Bell and champion pool rescue swimmer Christina Ruiz in today’s SERC event – the Simulated Emergency Response Competition and they will also contest the Line Throw and 200mn Obstacle events later in the day before competition resumes at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre tomorrow and continues Thursday.

“We were pleased to have a rest day yesterday, Shannon took the family to the vineyards and we greeted the new faces into town for another busy week,” said Northcliffe coach Barry Newman, the Australian Surf Sports Coach of the Year, who coached the Australian Youth Team to victory over New Zealand on Sunday.

“It’s a strong team, who are all dedicated to the cause and we’re looking to add the World Championship crown to our National Championship, but we know Kurrawa will be very tough as will Mooloolaba and Many.”

Kurrrawa will field one of the strongest all-round beach squads in the world – with eight-times Australian champion Howard and nine-times winner Simon Harris joined by their Kiwi rivals Hickman and Cracroft-Wilson.

Howard was beaten by Hickman in the National Teams Championship beach flags final while Cracroft-Wilson had to play third fiddle to Iran’s Olympian Reza Ghasemi and Tom Nolan in the beach sprint and second fiddle to South African Ryle de Morny in the flags, with Nolan third.

They will also field South Australian product Stephanie Ballantine – who was recently named the Australian Surf Sports competitor of the Year.

Meanwhile Mooloolaba will have the likes of Kellogg’s Ironmen Matt Poole and Kendrick Louis, Ironwomen Allira Richardson, Kelly-Anne Perkins, Amy Nurthen and Teisha Jenkins in their team while New Zealand’s top club Mount Maunganui will feature 2012 Olympic K1200 gold medallist Lisa Carrington World Beach sprint champion from Lorne in 2006 Holly Moczydlowski and French star Emmanuelle Bescheron.

Other big names will include Coolangatta Gold stars, this year’s winner Brodie Moir (Nth Burleigh) and three-time champion Hayley Bateup who will line up for her new club Mermaid Beach.
