Day 1 of the opening round of the HSBC Sevens World Series will feature not only 16 international teams, but also four skydivers in a stadium first.

Two solo jumpers will be joined by reigning World Ironwoman and defending Coolangatta Gold Champion, Brodie Moir, who will do a tandem jump out of a helicopter at 3pm, landing on the pitch.

“To get the opportunity to parachute into Skilled Park is just amazing. As soon as I was asked I thought – wow, how exciting is that! The adrenalin will be pumping for sure,” said Ms Moir, a member of North Burleigh Surf Club.

APF’s National Development Manager, Rob Libeau agrees it’s very exciting to be the first to jump in to the stadium.

“We are very excited to be involved with the Gold Coast Sevens and see this as a great opportunity to showcase our sport, putting on a colourful show that is sure to excite the fans,” Libeau said.

Ms Moir joined the Qantas Men’s Sevens at Bond University this morning. The Official Education Partner of the Gold Coast Sevens hosted the team’s final training session ahead of their opening game against Scotland tomorrow.

“I would like to thank the Australian Parachute Federation for their assistance in adding to the excitement of the Gold Coast Sevens tournament.

“To have Brodie in addition, a world champion athlete, support the event in this way is fantastic. She has taken time out of her own training to add to the entertainment of the event and support the Australian team,” said Anthony Eddy, Rugby Sevens General Manager.
