Australian Commonwealth Games Triathlon Team Announcement
Triathlon Australia, April 15, 2014: The Australian Commonwealth Games Association will officially announce the six-member Triathlon team for this year’s XXth Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on the Gold Coast this Thursday.
All members of the team will be in attendance, along with Triathlon Australia National Performance Director, Bernard Savage.
Emma Moffatt and Aaron Royle have already been nominated to the team as a result of their performances in the Grand Final of the World Triathlon Series in London last year. They will be joined by their four Glasgow teammates for the announcement.
All nominations will have been confirmed as official selections prior to this media opportunity.
Australian team Chef de Mission, Steve Moneghetti, said….
“Everyone on the Australian team is delighted to see triathlon back on the schedule for Glasgow 2014, particularly after our results in Manchester in 2002 and Melbourne in 2006 when both Emma Snowsill and Brad Kahlefeldt won the gold.
“Australia has been a world leader in the sport of triathlon since its inception and it is exciting to see a new group of future stars on this team for Glasgow. Triathlon’s return will be one of the major highlights of these Games.
“We are also delighted to have the Triathlon Teams Relay on this program which will be a first for a major Multi-Sport event.”
Triathlon was first contested at a Commonwealth Games in Auckland in 1990 as a demonstration sport. It was added to the program in Manchester in 2002 and contested again in Melbourne in 2006 when the men’s and women’s champions were Australians Brad Kahlefeldt and Emma Snowsill, respectively.
It returns to the Games program in Glasgow after not being contested in Delhi in 2010.
