: A group of six Australian triathletes have been identified as future Commonwealth Games stars for 2018 and 2022.

Triathlon Australia, in consultation with the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) have identified four boys – Matthew Hauser, Calvin Quirk, Matt Roberts and Luke Willian and two girls Brittany Dutton and Sophie Malowiecki – all from Queensland, for inclusion on the 2015 NextGEN AusComGames Squad.

All six are part of the 2015 Australian Junior Triathlon Team to compete at the ITU Chicago World Championships on September 17 and they are also members of Triathlon Australia’s 11-member National Talent Academy roster named earlier today.

Triathlon Australia’s National Manager – High Performance Pathway, Craig Redman described all six as outstanding prospects over the next four-eight years – with the potential to represent Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast or the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

“They are all extremely talented individuals that we believe will hold us in good stead moving forward,” said Redman.

“But without the on going support of the ACGA we would not be able to expose our next generation to international development opportunities.

“The assistance from the ACGA has been invaluable in supporting our young athletes and the support is having a significant impact.

“Last year athletes who received the support included Jake Birtwhistle, Calvin Quirk and Brittany Dutton, who all achieved major international successes.

“Birtwhistle and Quirk were second and third respectively in the ITU World Juniors while Dutton won gold in the Youth Olympic Games.

“This year our six athletes will again be exposed to international competitions in Fiji, Japan, Canada and the USA as well as elite training camps in Australia and the USA prior to the Chicago World Triathlon Championships.”

The camps and tours will be conducted in two stages starting on June 6 with the OTU Fiji Oceania Cup Triathlon and finishing on September 17 with the ITU World Championships in Chicago.
