Louisa keeps Abram flag flying with Aquathlon gold in Chicago
Triathlon Australia, September 17, 2015: Queensland’s Louisa Abram has kept the family flag flying at the ITU World Triathlon Championships in Chicago today, winning gold in the Age Group Aquathlon.
The mother of 2003 ITU World Junior triathlon champion Felicity Abram who also won bronze behind Emma Snowsill in 2003 in Queenstown was the toast of the 300 strong Australian Age Group contingent.
With husband, former Wallaby prop Bill Abram cheering her on, Louisa,. From Toowong, overcame the Chicago heatwave to win the 55-59 years swim-run event comfortably in a time of 37 minutes 36 seconds from Shauna Smith from the USA (38:53) and Barbara Holmes from Great Britain (38.54).
Other medals for Australia went to:
- Brisbane’s Clare White, who won silver in the 25-29 years age group.
- Casey Gollen from Unley in SA also won silver in the 40 to 44 years age group.
- Clint Bain from Bairnsdale in Victoria who was third in the 50-54 years
- Freshwater’s former Australia beach flags champion Robert Pickard from Black Forrest in NSW who was third in the 65-69 age group and;
- Australia’s oldest medallist 75-year-old, Peter Bennett from Gilston in Queensland who won bronze in the 75-79 years.
Other notable top ten finishes came in the:
20-24 years: Chris Huang (NSW) 6th; Sam Daley (NSW) 8th
30-34 years: Stephanie Stokes (NSW) 6th 25-29 years
30-34 years: Josh Dew (VIC) 8th
40-44 years: Claudia Chavez (SA) 5th
50-54 years: Ana Oertel (QLD) 5th
50-59 years: Kim Elvery (NSW) 6th
50-59 years: Richard Elvery (NSW) 7th
60-64 years: Penny Hearn (QLD) 5th
60-64 years: Nerida Clarke ((ACT) 10th
