TriathlonAust-LogoTriathlon Australia, August 1, 2016: Six World Championship bound junior triathletes have been named in Australia’s NextGen AusComGames 2016 Squad, announced today by Triathlon Australia in conjunction with the Australian Commonwealth Games Association.

The athletes are: Men - Matthew Hauser (QLD), Liam McCoach (WA) and Kye Wylde (QLD) and women: Sophie Malowiecki (QLD), Jessica Claxton (WA) and Zoe Leahy (QLD).

The ACGA, great supporters of Triathlon Australia, has assisted with funding the team on its recent Asian tour which saw the young Aussies dominate competitions in Singapore and Japan ¬– the first stage of an outstanding international development opportunity.

The funds will also assist the six-strong team for Stage Two of the program, that will see them represent Australia in next month’s ITU World Championships in Cozumel, Mexico.

Triathlon Australia’s National Manager, High Performance Pathway, Craig Redman knows how valuable the funding is to the sport’s young charges.

“On behalf of Triathlon Australia we thank the Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) for their continued support of triathlon and our next generation of elite athletes,” Redman said.

“The assistance from the ACGA has been invaluable in supporting our young athletes and the support is having a significant impact.

“Indeed, last year the athletes supported by the 2015 AJCGS program grant returned with some outstanding international results.

“All athletes will be outstanding prospects over the next four to eight years; indeed they are all extremely talented individuals that we believe will hold us in good stead moving forward.

“They have the potential to be selected in the 2018 and/or the 2022 Commonwealth Games Team.”
