TRIATHLON, June 21: Highly respected Wollongong triathlete and coach Mark Scott remains in a critical condition today in Wollongong Hospital today after being hit by a car while training with his father on Saturday morning.

The close-knit triathlon and Illawarra sporting community have pulled together to support Mark who remains in a critical condition and on life support after suffering severe head injuries when his bike and a car collided at Primbee about 8am.

Mark had just returned home after completing in the Challenge Cairns Ironman three weeks ago and was on a recovery ride with his father, Bob Scott, at the time of the accident.

Yesterday, Bob told the Illawarra Mercury his son's condition was unchanged and he remained heavily sedated.

"It's all just touch and go, he's critical," Bob Scott said.

"There's no real change, it's all just the same and that's somewhat to be expected.

"We're just praying for him. The [hospital medical staff] are doing everything possible here; they are doing a fantastic job and he's being monitored."

A legion of friends and well-wishers have left messages of support on the Illawarra Mercury website for Mark and his family.

One read: "Praying for you again today mate. You still have so much more to do on this earth, so many more races to win. Stay strong!"

Mark's wife Lauren, parents Sue and Bob, and sister Anna have remained by his side since the accident.

Triathlon Australia's National  Talent and Development Manager Craig Redman described Mark
