JUNIOR TITLES SET FOR THRILLING CLIMAX

March 11, 2012: Only 11 points are separating leading clubs Maroochydore and Northcliffe as Surf Life Saving Queensland's Junior State Championships at Maroochydore reach their climax today.

With only a few individual events remaining in the 11, 12, 13, and 14 years age groups, Maroochydore is on 250 points, with Gold Coast club Northcliffe on 239. Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park is third on 113.

Honours have been evenly spread in today's early finals, with Chelsea Gubecka (under-14 female surf race) successful for the host club and Madisyn Armstrong (under-11 female surf race) grabbing gold for Northcliffe.

Mooloolaba's Nicole Kay completed the treble of beach events, winning today's sprint final to add to the relay and beach flags gold medals she won yesterday.

Mitchell Simmons of Mermaid Beach won the under-14 male ironman ahead of Kurrawa pair Lachlan Sergis and Liam Chrisite.

The day started with the colourful march past ceremony and Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park was named winner of the march past ahead of Surfers Paradise and Moore Park.

The Queensland Junior State Championships will conclude this afternoon.
