MEDIA STATEMENT: SURF BOAT COMPETITION
March 28, 2012: Due to rough surf conditions, the carnival committee has suspended Surf Boat competition at
Kurrawa for the 2012 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.
Surf Life Saving Australia's CEO Brett Williamson OAM, said it was disappointing that the bad weather had disrupted the event, which has seen more than 7,000 competitors and officials from across Australia and around the world come to the Gold Coast.
"We will be moving the Surf Boat competition to a new venue and are currently undertaking risk assessments on the contingency locations," he said.
"The safety of the competitors is our priority before we allow events to proceed.
"Event organisers are monitoring the situation around the clock and we are committed to providing the most accurate information to competitors, officials and spectators as soon as it is available."
To assist competitors, officials, the media and the public, organisers will post the latest information on the website. www.sls.com.au/aussies
