STATEMENT FROM SLSA: 2012 AUSTRALIAN SURF LIFE SAVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

March 28, 2012: Australian Surf Life Saving Championships organisers can confirm that a search is underway for a missing competitor at the 2012 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships at Kurrawa Beach.

The incident occurred in the under-15 area.

Surf Life Saving Australia's CEO, Brett Williamson OAM, said police, the Westpac Helicopter Rescue Service, Lifeguards, competitors and the event's own safety and carnival medical officers are participating in the search.

"At this time, we are not able to provide further information on the incident, however, all Championship events have been suspended until further notice," he said.

"I will be making further statements as soon as I am able."

Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) is co-operating with all authorities and will release further details as they become available.
