AUSTRALIAN SURF LIFE SAVING, August 29, 2012: Five time Coolangatta Gold Champion and reigning Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Series winner Caine Eckstein has today announced he will not be contesting either of the Surf Ironman events this season to focus on the Hawaiian Ironman in October.

After getting the nod from race officials for qualification Eckstein has been under a gruelling training regime to complete the 140.6-mile journey that presents the ultimate test of endurance, dedication and determination.

After winning his fifth Coolangatta Gold and maiden Ironman Series last season Eckstein said the Hawaiian Ironman is the next step.

“I love surf lifesaving and owe all my success to the sport, however, I would like to take a year off the Gold and the Series and complete KONA for something different,”  Eckstein said in a Press Release issued today by Kurrawa Surf Club.

“I just want to complete Kona and see how my times are and then follow up with the Xterra World (Triathlon)Championship race two weeks after in Maui.”

In conjunction with these events Eckstein will be producing a ‘fly on the wall’ television documentary covering training, preparation and racing which will also include the Mark Webber Challenge in November.

Eckstein will return to the surf sports arena to compete for his Club Kurrawa at the State and National Surf Life Saving Titles.
