AUSTRALIAN SURF STARS TO PUT FRESHIE KIDS THROUGH THEIR PACES
AUSTRALIAN SURF LIFE SAVING, September 21, 2012: MEMBERS of the Australian Surf Life Saving Team for this year’s Rescue 2012 World Life Saving Championships will be at Freshwater Beach this Sunday (September 23, 2012) as they prepare to take on the world in Adelaide in November.

The likes of Ironman Hugh Dougherty and Ironwomen Kristyl Smith, Commonwealth Swim star Rebecca Creedy, rising star Jordan Mercer and beach sprint flyers Tom Nolan, Jordan Caldow and Melissa Howard will be among the stars of the 20-strong Australian teams who will converge on the iconic Northern Beaches location, where Duke Kahanamoko introduced surfing into Australia in 1915.
Mercer is the daughter of Ironman great Darren Mercer while Caldow is one of the hottest sprint properties in Australia, with his sights set of representing Australia at the 2016 Olympics, in Rio.
The Duke’s photos and photos of some of Australia’s greatest surf lifesaving champions adorn the walls of the club and it is fitting that the 2012 Australian team will officially start their preparations for a world title defence on the Freshwater sands.
And in what will be a huge boost the Australian representatives will put Freshwater’s development squad and juniors through their paces in a special training session.
It will also be a happy home coming for Australian Under 20 coach Barry Newman, who was an Australian champion with the Freshwater Club, who has just returned from the Sanyo Bussan Cup carnival in Japan, where Australia dominated.
Among the Australian under 20 team is Manly Life Saving Club’s emerging Australian surf and belt champion Trent Klousal.
The media are invited to attend the session this Sunday.
