AUSTRALIAN SURF LIFE SAVING, October 12, 2012: Mooloolaba's Ali Day and Brodie Moir of North Burleigh scored the biggest wins of their surf lifesaving careers when they raced to victory in the open men's and open women's Coolangatta Gold races today.

Day led a sweep of the placings for his Sunshine Coast club in the 45km men's event, finishing well clear of Alex Tibbits in second place and Josh Minogue in third.
No one was prouder of the 1-2-3 result than the coach of all three placegetters, Michael King, the winner of the Coolangatta Gold in 1991.
"I've never won anything this big, it's something I've always dreamed of," Day said.
Moir was also celebrating a breakthrough result after she outsprinted defending champion Courtney Hancock in the race to the finish line at Coolangatta. Hancock's sister Bonnie placed third, making it the first time sisters have finished the 32km endurance test together on the podium.
"It's unreal, this is such a great event," Moir said.
"I knew I had the fitness and when I sprinted near the patrol flags at Kirra, Courtney didn't go with me."
“Coolangatta Gold is supported by Events Queensland as part of a
growing calendar of sporting, cultural, business and regional events across the state.”
