TOP boaties from all over Australia gather at North Kirra beach today hungry to win 2013 Aussie gold on Sunday.
Head boat referee Tony ‘Torch’ Haven said a total of 335 crews would do battle over the next three days.
Again the reserves in the best supported division with 84 crews entered closely followed by 84 open women’s crews and 50 open men’s outfits.
Finals will continue through Sunday afternoon culminating with the open women’s final at 2.15pm and the open men at 2.30pm.
Haven said all the top crews were here on the Gold Coast with Bryce Munro’s Mona Vale crew chasing a hat-trick of wins in the open men’s championship but it will be open slather in the open women’s with the champion South Curl Curl crew not defending their title.
Mooloolaba sweep Brenden Western has his Amcal girls’ crew back on deck after his wife Sara had baby Kane last season. They had 2012 off after winning the Aussie title in 2011.
“We had a row at Christies Beach to win the world title and all the girls are keen for success this weekend,” said Western.

Mona Vale will be brimming with confidence after winning the surfboat relay title on Wednesday from Tannum Sands and South Curl Curl with defending champs Currumbin Vikings fourth.

Jack Allis has his North Cottesloe crew firing and Jack Patison is certain to have his Austinmer outfit, the 2013 Ocean Thunder champs, not far off the mark in the open men’s division.
Avoca, with Richard Briertey on the sweep-oar can never be discounted and Lyle Clark and his Currumbin Barbarians don’t want another silver.

Matt ‘Chook’ Wildman’s Currumbin Hustlers are in great form after winning back-to-back Queensland titles.
