Jack’s clean sweep for Austi

slsa logo 2014Surf Life Saving Australia, April 17, 2015: AUSTIMER sweep Jack Patison obviously did plenty of homework before steering his three crews to win the 2015 Aussies surfboat relay in small wind-swept surf at Tugun on Friday afternoon.

Patison, somewhat a strategist, believed his U19 rowers were a cut above others in their division and knew hiswomen were faultless under pressure and would rise to the occasion.

Consistency helped him pick the order his crews would row with his open men starting their campaign followed by the U19 men and then the women.

They certainly rewarded Patison for his faith.

The open men were within striking distance of Palm Beach NSW, Collaroy and North Cottesloe when they hit the cans and but may have dropped back a bit on their way home.

Patison’s U19 made up plenty of ground after leaving the beach to run down Palm Beach NSW U19 crew and fight for the lead at the turning buoys.

They were right up with frontrunners Palm Beach, Collaroy and North Cottesloe and in the middle alley they pulled on a runner which developed into a wave to lead back to the beach.

The women did their job and also cracked a wave to give Austinmer a much deserved victory.

“It’s a great way to start the week. It was all really a matter of consistency,” said Patison who swept his open men’s crew to win Aussie gold last season.

“I’ve probably won six or seven gold medals but this is probably the greatest thing I have ever done.

“This time I had my wife Renee in the boat and our second-stroke from my open men’s crew, Cory Jackson, had his fiancée Morgan Davies in the women’s crew.”

Patison said the win was something great for the Austinmer club.
