SHANNON MAKES IT NUMBER FOUR
Coogee Beach, February 22: Shannon Eckstein today won his fourth Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Iron Man Series crown with the best performance of his distingushed career at Sydney's Coogee Beach.
Eckstein powered through all three lung-busting rounds to leave arch rival Zane Holmes in fourth place, behind training partner Pierce Leonard and Corey Jones.
It was a relaxed Eckstein who led through the opening ski and swim legs in the final and as hard as Leonard tried he could not catch his more experienced club mate on the final paddle home on the board.
Eckstein won the Series from Holmes and rookie Matt Poole.
Earlier it was Naomi Flood who nailed her first women's Series win despite finishing sixth to defending Series champion Elizabeth Pluimers in the final.
In the teams event it was the Eckstein, Holmes and
Pluimers led Telstra Southern Queensland Sunfish who came from behind to take the title.
A stirring fifth place from rookie James Stewart in the men's final was the finishing touch.
