GEORGIA MAKES HISTORY WITH THREE-PEAT DOUBLE

georgia miller headshot .jpgBlacksmiths Beach, February 22: Freshwater's Georgia Miller swam and paddled her way into the history books at the Westpac NSW State Age Surf Life Saving Championships at Blacksmiths Beach, Swansea Belmont at the weekend.

The 13-year-old won her third straight State surf race and board rescue titles with new partner Nicola Stirton and added silver medals in the iron woman and board finals as well as helping her team mates Stirton, Lauren Caruana and Ruby Curtis to bronze in the surf teams.

She showed all the skills and determination of one of the most outstanding youngsters to come through the Sydney Northern Beaches Branch surf sports nursery.

"To win one State surf race is outstanding - to win three in a row is amazing and to back it up with Nicola in the board rescue is also a great feat," said Freshwater president John Swan.

"She is a credit to herself, her family and her club and I know she can't wait to join her sisters Alicia and Brooke in the senior ranks."

And that wait is only a matter of days with Georgia set to make her debut in this weekend's All Phones NSW Open State Championships, back at Blacksmith's Beach.

Georgia will contest the under 15 surf race and iron woman events and will join with Laura Crerar in the board rescue, continuing on the family combination which has already seen their big sisters Alicia Miller and Rachel Crerar win the Australian under 19 board rescue title.

Freshwater's other gold medals came in the under 14 female board relay with Deandra Godoy, Sarah Lovely and Jessie O'Carroll, and from Freddy Lussick in the under 9 board race.

Freddy also picked up a silver medal in the under 9 board relay, teaming with Matthew Melhuish and Zachary Werasko, while his older brother Joey also grabbed two medals -  silver in the under 13 board rescue with Grant McDonald and bronze in the under 13 surf race.

Freshwater placed ninth on the carnival pointscore.

BIG MEDAL HAUL FOR MANLY

Manly finished third on the pointscore for the Age Championships and grabbed a big haul of medals, led by double gold medalists Harmon Kassulke, Josh Talvi and Sara Eades.

All up the club won 10 gold medals, 6 silver and 10 bronze.

Harmon won the under 10 board race and teamed with Samson Coulter and Max Curtis to take out the under 10 board relay while Josh was supreme in the under 14 surf race and the surf teams with Dylan Kelly, David Morris and Harrison Williams

Sarah was in the winning under 10 beach relay (with Natasha Bernard, Kate Boyle and Billie Mayall) and march past teams.

Harmon, Samson and Max also grabbed bronze in the under-10 male surf teams along with James Costa.

Sprinter Dylan Goodearl struck gold in the under-14 beach flags and also took home a bronze medal from the all-age beach relay.

Other Manly gold medals came from the under 11 female beach relay team of Lily Kelly, Lucy Knowles and Mia Willows, the under 9 male board relay team of Jack Kable, Flynn McGrath and Andrew Newling, and Cooper Krenkels and Conor Wolohan in the under 12 male board rescue.
