MERCER GIVES YOUNGSTERS THE SLIP IN BURLEIGH SWIM WINS
September 7: Evergreen Dean Mercer, will line up in his seventh nib Coolangatta Gold on October 18, gave his younger rivals the slip, not one but twice at Burleigh Heads on Sunday to celebrate "Father's Day" in style. With wife Reen (Corbett) and his three little boys looking on, Deano won the two kilometre Burleigh Ocean Swim and then added the one kilometre "Dash for Cash."
Dean told the Gold Coast Bulletin's Nick Smart: "Conditions were fantastic out there, it was great to have an event like this to train for ahead of the nib Coolangatta Gold.
"It was also great my three young boys could be here to watch me, especially being Father's Day. What a way to spend the day.
"I was really lucky to get that little wave at the end. I'm really pleased I'm still up there with these younger guys. I still have a bit of work to do now though ahead of next month's Gold."
