aussie champs logo.jpgMarch 15: Surf Life Saving Australia has announced that tomorrow's first day of Masters competition at this year's Whereis® Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will proceed as per program at Kurrawa.

Competition is scheduled to start at 7:15am with the one and two kilometre beach runs followed by swim and board heats for all ages from 30-35 years to 65-69 years and over.

Ironman heats are scheduled to follow single ski and rescue tube events from 11.30am.

SLSA CEO Brett Williamson said: "Our events team together with emergency services personnel have been monitoring conditions over the past week and although there has been some beach erosion, the first day of competition will remain at Kurrawa.

"The emergency services personnel are on site and will carry out risk assessments and advise us of a course of action.

"Contingency plans are already in place to deal with any further adverse conditions and should we need to implement them we are fully prepared."

The six-day extravaganza will see the Masters competition staged over the first two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, before open competition begins on Thursday, climaxing with the major finals on Sunday.

Masters surf boat events are scheduled for 8am on Wednesday morning.

More than 7,500 entries have been received from around Australia and overseas with a record number of entries received from international competitors from Japan, New Zealand, Wales and France.

They will contest over 290 events in age groups from under 15 to 65 years and over.
