JACOB LOLLBACK MEMORIAL BOARD RACE DAY

jacob lollback captain international challenge photo harvie allison.jpgSURF SPORTS, August 19: The who's who of Australian board paddlers, Ironmen and Ironwomen are expected to converge on the NSW North Coast resort town of Yamba on Saturday September 25 to honour the memory of the late Jacob Lollback, one of Australia's finest young surf lifesavers.

Lollback, a former National champion and Australian representative lost his life in a diving accident off the coast of Gladstone last year.

He was regarded as one of Australia's finest young board paddlers and his death rocked the surf lifesaving communities around the Australian coastline.

It is fitting that his original club Yamba will present the JACOB LOLLBACK - MEMORIAL BOARD RACE DAY that will see $10,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs in long distance board races for Under 15s to Masters plus 200 metre ‘Dash for Cash' in all age groups.

There will also be random prize draws including three new racing boards from major supporters, leading board manufacturers, KRACKA, DOLPHIN and XCEL

THE LIST OF EVENTS ARE:

  • Open Male and Female 4km board race
  • U/15, U/17, U/19, 30-39 and Over 40 Male and Female 2km board races.
  • 200 metre ‘Dash for Cash' for both Males and Females in all above age groups.

ENTRIES: Entries close on Tuesday 21st September, 2010 and should be forwarded to: P.O. Box 219, Yamba NSW 2464. Late entries will be accepted on the morning of the event subject to a late payment fee of $5 per person. i.e. total fee of $30pp.

REGISTRATION: All competitors need to register on the morning of the event between 9am and 10.30am. Competitors will be numbered and this number will be used for BOTH races as well as for the random draws at the presentation following the event.

COURSES: A 2km rectangular course will be set off Yamba Main Beach. Open competitors will paddle 2 laps of the course. All other age groups will paddle 1 lap of the course. For the ‘Dash for Cash' races, competitors will start between 2 buoys 200 metres out to sea and race to the beach and run to the finish line.

START TIMES:

11.00am - U/15 males 2km

11.02am - U/15 females 2km

11.10am - U/17 males 2km

11.12am - U/17 females 2km

11.20am - U/19 males 2km

11.22am - U/19 females 2km

11.30am - 30/39 males 2km

11.32am-30/39 females 2km

11.40am - O/40 males 2km

11.42am - O/40 females 2km

12 noon - Open male 4km

12.05pm - Open female 4km

‘Dash For Cash'

1pm start - Under 15 males, then at 5 minute intervals in same order as previous events.

PRESENTATIONS: Presentation of all prizes will take place in the clubhouse at 2pm. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in all long distance events. In the Dash for Cash races there will be a cash prize for 1st place in each age group.(subject to numbers of entrants).

ADVERSE SURF CONDITIONS: If surf conditions on the day are deemed to be too rough and dangerous the races will be re-located to Whiting Beach inside the river mouth or another suitable location nearby.

AGE GROUPS: As this event is being held before the 30th September, under SLSA rules, age group cut-off dates will be the same as for the 2009-10 season e.g. if you competed in the Under 17 age group last season then you will race in the Under 17 event. Any 13 & 14 year old competitors who hold the Surf Rescue Certificate award will be eligible to compete in the Under 15 age group events.

MERCHANDISE: There will be a limited number of specially printed commemorative T-shirts available for purchase on the day as well as items of Yamba merchandise including towels, caps, stubby holders.
