2010 COOLANGATTA GOLD UPDATE
Surf Life Saving Australia General Manager of Sport Dave Thompson said that the conditions were heavier than yesterday, and to ensure the fairest start for all competitors, the ski start would happen out to sea behind the break.
"After doing a final assessment of conditions this morning, the carnival committee have decided in the interest of fair competition and safety, all competitors will be required to do a deep water start.
"Competitors will have 15-20minutes to get through the break and line up for the start - however this is at the discretion of the referee who will work with competitors on the line.
"This has formed part of our contingency plan since deciding to take the event to Kurrawa last year, knowing that the break can be more of a challenge then that at Surfers Paradise.
"We're expecting conditions today to be testing, but emergency services personnel have assessed conditions along the course and are happy the plans in place.
"Winds are predicted to be lighter inshore with the swell predicted to be 1.5 - 2.0 metres.
"Water safety along the course will continue to monitor conditions throughout the race," he said.
