“Triathlon is now one of the most competitive sports in the world and the racing is getting more and more intense, you cannot afford to have a weakness,” said Redman, who has witnessed first hand the development of Great Britain’s Brownlee brothers Alistair and Jonathan, the names on everyone’s lips in the lead up to London 2012.

“We have to ensure that our youngsters have the best possible skill development and skill acquisition to prepare them for what may lie ahead.

““We have seen Britain with the Brownlees, Helen Jenkins and their dominant under 23 men; the USA with the transition of two of their best track athletes into triathlon and the depth of all the European countries such as Russia, Spain and Germany including the emergence of athletes from countries like Japan and Canada.

“We are genuinely excited about the next crop of juniors in Australia and we determined to give them every opportunity to develop their skills. There are some real outstanding prospects in this group and we have to show them what it takes to be an elite triathlete.

“Our aim is to have the best possible athletes ready for 2016 and 2020 and exposing them to the best coaches in the country will help them get there.

“That’s why it is exciting to have someone like a Peter Robertson, who has attended a few camps with Triathlon Victoria, put his hand up and we are ecstatic that he wants to be involved.

“You cannot buy his Olympic and World Championship experience and put him together with the likes of Craig Walton and Jan Rehula and our other coaches and we could not ask for a better group.”
